General Questions

Islander's primary responsibility is to fulfill orders for brick and mortar dealers. As the demand for the reels have grown over the years our production has become maxed out. Continuous improvements are being made to increase our production capacity without reducing the quality, but as our capacity has grown, so has the number of orders.

Once all orders for dealers have been fulfilled, any additional reels are put onto the website so keep an eye out! Also look at the new Dealer Locator to find a retailer near you.

Islander Reels was born from a high-precision machine shop in 1990. With over 35 years of manufacturing fishing reels with the highest quality and precision, practice makes perfect. Countless lessons learned over the decades of successes and failures have influenced the reels that we make today.

As a small batch premium product, we can take the time to ensure every reel is up to our standards. Every component is inspected and assembled by hand, informed by decades of experience. Combining the hand-crafted assembly techniques with modern CNC machining and metrology is what makes each reel look and feel just right.

Yes, but less than most manufacturing companies. All the aluminum and steel we use is sourced within Canada and the USA. That raw material is either tariffed 35% coming from the USA, or the commodity premium from Canadian sourced material has also increased roughly 35%. Thankfully, that accounts for the vast majority of our increased costs.

Most of Islander's customers are Canadian, but we have had to stop shipments to our US distributor. We're thankful of the support from our local customers in replacing that demand!

US customers can still buy reels online. Those purchases will be subject to tariffs of 35% on the aluminum and steel material cost, not the total reel cost. This varies per reel, ranging from around $30 to $60 USD after all the processing fees. Rods, accessories, and clothing are tariffed at different rates, but should not exceed $5-$20 per item.
